Zanotta Wire Tables

Smallwire, Wire and Bigwire tables have been designed by Arik Levy for Zanotta. “Just like in a biological process, I obtained this cyber form by assembling elements, multiplying them, changing their disposition, connecting them to a structure or just to one another in empty space. These objects give the illusion of constant movement, as if they could expand and grow into any dimension and proportion…hypnotic as they can be by their visual effect, one can just keep on transforming them with the mind…”

Mazda Nagare

Under the direction of Mazda's new global design director, Laurens van den Acker, the challenge given to the team was to invent a novel means of registering motion in vehicles whether they're moving or still. Nagare achieves that goal while also signaling a fresh design direction for future Mazda vehicles.
Like all Mazda products, Nagare has the soul of a sports car. Its shape is sleek and aerodynamically efficient, as you'd expect of an urban cruiser for the future. Wheels are positioned at the far corners of the envelope for quick steering response and agile maneuverability. There isn't an ounce of overhang wasted.
Access to the four-place interior is provided by two double-length doors that hinge forward and up like the wings of a butterfly. The driver is centrally located, like a single-seat sports racer, for optimum control and visibility. Since the driver is positioned under the highest portion of the roof, there's ample headroom with a comfortably reclined backrest. Innovative seating arrangements are a Mazda specialty, as witnessed by the successful RX-8 four-passenger sports car and the clever packaging in the upcoming CX-9 three-row, seven-passenger crossover sport-utility vehicle.
Nagare's rear compartment is a wrap-around lounge offering relaxed accommodations for three passengers. The central front seat and expansive door opening facilitate easy entry to the surprisingly roomy interior.
Recognizing that an advanced design concept needs an advanced powertrain, Nagare could conceivably be powered by a hydrogen-fueled rotary engine. Mazda's work on this advanced driveline technology is among the most advanced in the world, with hydrogen/gasoline-fueled rotaries powering RX-8s currently in service in Japan.

Sony Unveils New AVCHD Burner
Sony shows off its new AVCHD burner, compatible with select camcorders
Sony Electronics unveiled last Tuesday the VRD-MC5, a self-contained DVD burner that connects with select Sony AVCHD camcorders. This is the first burner in their line of DVDirect models able to support the growing format. Sony has already released seven AVCHD camcorders, but a computer and conversion software was necessary for converting videos to DVD for playback on home systems.
The VRD-MC5 offers USB, RCA analog, S-video, and Firewire inputs. The burner will also work with standard definition camcorders. The VRD-MC5 records various formats including DVD, HDD, DV, and Digital8, connected by either RCA or Firewire. The unit does not accept HDV input streams. AVCHD camcorders can only be connected to the burner through the USB port.
The unit comes equipped with a 2.5" LCD, navigation controls, and a large burn button. The burner allows for clips to be sorted and placed in a preferred order for burning on DVD+R/-R/+RW/-RW/+R DL discs. It also works as a still photo burner with card slots for MemoryStick Duo/PRO Duo, SD/SDHC, xD, and compact flash.
The unit has no video output, so it cannot be used a home DVD player. While the VRD-MC5 is able to transfer video to a full-size disc, the format is still AVCHD. Because of this, the playback device must be compatible with AVCHD.
Most models recording to HDD and flash memory should be compatible, the PlayStation 3 and a few DVD players are compatible for playback. No U.S. release has been set, but the unit will be available in Japan starting August 10. A retail price has not been set yet.

Google and YouTube Strike Partnership with EMI

Google and YouTube form an agreement with EMI Music for authorized content
EMI Music, Google, and YouTube announced a landmark agreement on Thursday. The agreement will allow YouTube users access to authorized videos and recordings from EMI Music artists, letting them edit and use the videos and recordings in their content.
The agreement will also allow EMI artists to reach and interact with YouTube users. Allowing EMI copyrighted material on YouTube opens the doors for artists to get better feedback from their fans.
“Working with YouTube under this agreement meets EMI’s objectives to offer consumers the best possible entertainment experiences, to create new ways to connect our artists to fans and to enter into innovative business models that will generate revenues for our business and our creators,” EMI Group CEO Eric Nicoli said. “YouTube has quickly established itself as a stand-out fan favorite because it’s a site that taps into what people want and also consistently delivers a good experience. Through this agreement EMI Music and its artists will be fairly compensated for their work.”
Prior to the EMI deal, Google and YouTube had negotiated licensing deals with Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, CBS, and BBC. The internet video giant is working hard trying to sign agreements to fend off copyright legal disputes.
EMI's incentive for the agreement is that it can now use YouTube's content management tools to help EMI track and monetize its content and compensate its artists, using a content identification and reporting system. The music company will also be able to request the removal of its copyrighted content.
EMI Music recently announced its entire music library would be available at higher quality and free of DRM. After experimenting with DRM-free music in December, the company really took to the idea after Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced his support for DRM-free music.
